Cavs assume state's top spot
As expected following Friday's week zero results, Lake Travis is now the top-ranked team in Texas, according to the Associated Press.
Lake Travis moved up from the second spot in the AP poll following its 47-13 win at Converse Judson. Southlake Carroll, which opened the season ranked first, dropped its opener 24-0 at Allen. Westlake, Lake Travis' new district rival, also received votes for the top 10.
While Lake Travis moved up in the AP poll, it held steady in the No. 2 spot at Dave Campbell's Texas Football rankings. Lake Travis opened the season behind Dallas Skyline. One other notable in the Texas Football rankings is (Waco) Hewitt Midway, checking in at No. 11. Lake Travis defeated Midway in the 4A, Division I title game last season.
The Cavaliers also maintain some lofty positions in national rankings. MaxPreps ranks Lake Travis as No. 11 in its Xcellent 25 poll and No. 21 in its Freeman Rankings. ESPN has Lake Travis ranked No. 10 in its ESPN 25 Power Rankings.
The Cavaliers will play their home opener this Friday, hosting New Braunfels Canyon at 7:30.
