Week 2 wrap-up: Scouting the schedule
Week 2 turned out to be an improvement for Lake Travis’ opponents, most of them anyway.
Four of the nine teams – not including Westwood – won their games, but overall Lake Travis’ opponents have had a rough go as the season enters the final non-district week. Lake Travis opponents have a combined 9-21 record. Only Westwood and A&M Consolidated have winning records.
A&M Consolidated, which makes its way to Lake Travis Friday from College Station, brings momentum from a 35-17 win over Westlake into the schools’ first meeting. Quarterback Jaylen Cheshire and receiver Josh Stewart led a second-half comeback. The Chaps led at the half but couldn’t manage much at all in the second half, falling to 1-2 on the season. Converse Judson defeated S.A. Churchill 45-24 to earn its first win of the season. Jarveon Williams, who topped 100 yards against Lake Travis, rushed for 302 yards and five touchdowns on just 14 carries. Complete game details from the San Antonio Express-News here.
Bowie earned its first win of the season with a thrilling comeback against Round Rock. The Dragons controlled things throughout, but a late Bowie score earned the Bulldawgs their first win. Details from the Round Rock Leader here.
Akins also joined the win parade Friday night, upsetting Bastrop 17-16 for the Eagles’ first win since 2009. Ronald Tate picked up a Bastrop fumble and returned it 17 yards for the winning score for Akins. Bastrop more than played its part in helping the Eagles snap a 28-game losing streak. Details from the Bastrop Advertiser here.
Anderson and Del Valle both dropped close decisions last Friday. Anderson lost to Lehman 15-14 to remain winless. McNeil overcame Del Valle and handed the Cardinals their second straight loss. Del Valle is 1-2 on the season.
