Lehman: 5 things

· Not exactly strangers

Lake Travis and Lehman have never met, but Lehman coach Todd Raymond has gone up against the Cavaliers before. Raymond faced Lake Travis twice as McCallum’s head coach. Raymond led the Knights against Lake Travis in the Bi-District round of the 2010 and 2011 playoffs. Lake Travis won both on the way to state championships. The Cavaliers won comfortably in 2011, 58-7, but the 2010 game was nearly more than the Cavaliers. A late stand helped the Cavaliers to a 28-20 win.

· Flying south

Lehman has had two coaches in its young history, and both came from Austin ISD schools. The Lobos tapped then-Austin High coach Steve Davis to start their program. He posted a 20-40 record in six seasons, including the only two .500 or better years. Raymond succeeded Davis after three years at McCallum.

· Finding their footing

Lehman played its first season of varsity football in 2005 has never made the playoffs. The Lobos’ only winning season came in 2010, when they finished 6-4. That season saw Lehman jump out to a 4-0 start before they dropped four straight before winning their final two games.

· Sibling rivalry

Lehman formed when Hays Consolidated ISD trustees voted to split the longstanding flagship school of the district. The Lobos and Rebels have played nine times, including this season, and the Lobos have yet to beat big brother. The best game in the “Battle for Buda” series came in 2011, when Hays prevailed 28-27.

· First one to 40…

Lehman has played five games this season and each one has seen the winning team score at least 40 points. Lehman beat Akins 42-35 two weeks ago for a District 14-6A win, but the Lobos have given up 48, 49, 42 and 45 points in losses.
