Numbers that matter: Lake Travis vs. Westlake

1: Number of times game has been played with both teams ranking in the state’s top 10. Lake Travis currently ranks sixth, Westlake eighth.

3: Head coaches for each school during the rivalry. Derek Long (2006-08), Darren Allman (2009-13) and Todd Dodge (2014-present) have guided the Chaps. Jeff Dicus (2006-07), Chad Morris (2008-09) and Hank Carter have led Lake Travis.

4: Combined Lake Travis and Westlake graduates with experience in this game on NFL rosters (sorry Drew Brees): Westlake’s Nick Foles (St. Louis Rams), Justin Tucker (Baltimore Ravens) and Bryce Hager (St. Louis Rams) and Lake Travis’ Garrett Gilbert (Oakland Raiders practice squad).

6: Combined state championships won by the two head coaches. Westlake’s Todd Dodge won four titles at Southlake Carroll (including the 2006 title over Westlake). Lake Travis’ Hank Carter has two titles at the helm for the Cavaliers.

7: Championship game appearances between Lake Travis and Westlake since the rivalry began. Westlake reached the 5A, Division 2 finals and lost in both 2006 and 2009. Lake Travis won five straight 4A titles from 2007-11.

10: At kickoff, the number of times Westlake and Lake Travis have played at three different stadiums: Chapparal Stadium at Westlake, Cavalier Stadium at Lake Travis and Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

14: Number of times Lake Travis sacked Westlake quarterback Sam Ehlinger in last year’s game, leading to 70 yards in losses. On the night, Ehlinger finished with 21 rushing attempts for negative-37 yards. He remains the focal point of Westlake’s offense with 573 yards rushing to go along with 1,442 yards passing.

45: Combined touchdown passes – against just two interceptions – thrown by Ehlinger and Lake Travis starting quarterback Charlie Brewer this season, as of Oct. 22. Ehlinger has tossed 24 touchdown passes in seven games. Brewer has thrown 21.

44.6: Garrett Gilbert’s completion percentage as Lake Travis quarterback against Westlake in three career games. The Chaps are the only opponent to limit Gilbert’s passing against them.

97: Yards on game-winning touchdown pass in 2012 game at Westlake. Cavaliers’ Baker Mayfield connected with Grant Foster for long play that put Cavaliers ahead.
