No Cade Brewer. No Cade Green. No Maleek Barkley. No problem at all for Lake Travis’ offense.

Playing without a trio of college-bound starters, Lake Travis showcased its offense depth in a 61-7 romp past Vista Ridge Friday night. The Cavaliers did have Charlie Brewer, who passed for a career-best 355 yards and five scores, all in the first half.

Brewer completed 13 of 16 passes before turning things over to Matthew Baldwin for the second half, upping his season totals to 2,063 yards and 30 touchdowns without an interception.

“We just want Charlie to keep doing what he’s doing,” head coach Hank Carter said after the game. He’s taking care of the football and he’s being smart too. He’s not putting himself in situations where he’s going to take unneeded hits, and that’s what I’m really excited about. I think he put the ball on the money, and we caught it tonight.”

The Cavaliers turned to Carson Pepe, Connor Hawley, Alec Fuentes, Garrett Bressette and Garrett Wilson and scored at least 60 points for the third straight week. Lake Travis’ first 10 possessions ended with scores against the Rangers.

“We had three offensive starters who didn’t play tonight and it looked like we didn’t miss a beat,” Carter said. “It’s a good win. I’m excited about that. We’ve been scoring a lot of points the last couple of weeks.”

Playing in place of Barkley, Bressette scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns, including a 34-yard reception and rushed for 116 yards. Hawley, subbing for Cade Brewer, caught a pair of first-half touchdown passes and finished with four catches for 92 yards.

“I’m just trying to fill his shoes, do my job,” Hawley said of his three weeks as the starting tight end.

Fuentes, Pepe and Mac Humble helped the Cavaliers thrive without Green. Pepe had three catches for 104 yards and added a pair of long punt returns. Humble caught three passes for 88 yards and Fuentes added four grabs, including one for a touchdown. Wilson had a pair of catches including a 43-yard touchdown.

“Those guys all stepped up tonight,” said Charlie Brewer. “I knew that they were all capable of making plays and they all did tonight.”

Lake Travis’ defense continued its solid play early, forcing the Rangers to punt without picking up a first down on their first three possession. Hawley set up Bressette’s early touchdown run with a 27-yard grab off a pass from Garrett Wilson. Pepe’s first big punt return set up Bressette’s touchdown catch, and another led to Cameron Dicker’s 23-yard field goal as Lake Travis led 17-0 after the opening period.

Brewer threw four second-quarter touchdown passes as the Cavaliers continued their roll, two to Hawley and one each to Wilson and Fuentes.

Vista Ridge managed to end Lake Travis’ nine quarter shutout string with a second-quarter score when Aiden Florez rushed for a 7-yard score. Unable to move the ball with short passes, the Rangers unleashed a flurry of deep passes that helped them move the ball, to Carter’s frustration.

“I’m a little frustrated about the way we covered the deep ball a few times,” Carter said. “We had three pass interference penalties and let them catch a couple of them. They were tough catches.”

Jamil Pittman caught six passes for 125 yards for the Rangers, who managed 197 yards passing from Jacob Taute.

The win gave Lake Travis a share of the District 25-6A crown, the school’s sixth straight and 12th in the last 13 seasons. Lake Travis can claim the outright title with a win in Friday’s regular season finale against Vandegrift. Both teams are playoff bound.

Notes:

· Lake Travis has scored 60 points in three straight games for the first time in school history.

· Austin Hiller’s second-quarter interception was his first of the season and ninth of his career, tying Chris Roller (2012-14) for the school record.

· Lake Travis intercepted a pair of passes against the Vista Ridge. With the interceptions, the Cavaliers have now forced 13 turnovers on the season (six interceptions, seven fumble recoveries). The Cavaliers themselves have turned the ball over only 3 times – all on fumbles, for a +10 turnover ratio.

· With his career-best 354 yards, Charlie Brewer moved past Todd Reesing (2004-05) into third place on the school’s all-time passing yardage list. Brewer has 6,503 yards, still 955 yards behind older brother Michael (2008-10) for second place. Brewer ranks third in career completions (453), fourth in attempts (669) and second in both touchdown passes (82) and completion percentage (67.7).
