Lake Travis-Los Fresnos notes

Series History

Saturday marks the second meeting between the schools. Lake Travis won the previous meeting, last year, 64-7 in the third round.

Third round's a charm

Saturday marks the Cavaliers' ninth trip to the third round of the playoffs. Lake Travis has never lost a third-round playoff game. The Cavaliers' third-round victims include:

  • 2016: Los Fresnos (64-7)
  • 2015: Waco Midway (55-14)
  • 2013: Dallas Jesuit (55-30)
  • 2011: Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (58-14)
  • 2010: Victoria East (52-13)
  • 2009: Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (58-14)
  • 2008: Alice (55-32)
  • 2007: Corpus Christi Calallen (45-14)

Falcons rising

Los Fresnos is no stranger to success. Since a 4-6 season in 2004, the Falcons have made the playoffs every year since. This year's trip to the regional semifinals matches the longest playoff run in that tenure. The Falcons reached the regional final in 2016, 2014 and 2006-2008. In 2006 and 2008, the Falcons started 12-0.

"They have a tradition of winning," Lake Travis coach Hank Carter said.

Even though he hasn't focused much on the Falcons, Lake Travis senior receiver Alec Fuentes, who caught four key passes in last week's win over Judson, knows Los Fresnos will provide a test. "I know this: they made it to round 3 so they have to be doing something right."
