Creating New Thanksgiving Memories

While third-round playoff trips are the norm for Lake Travis – the Cavaliers have reached the third round in 7 of the last 8 seasons – it’s a new experience for Keiondre Lewis, who moved to Lake Travis from Del Valle.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet, but I’m excited,” Lewis said. “I’ve never done that before.”

Carter said football practice during Thanksgiving week is a bit different, and most players really enjoy it.

“Practicing on Thanksgiving is so fun and I’m really excited for those kids who have never gotten to do it before,” Carter said. “It’s a different vibe. You’re practicing football and going to meetings, and there’s no one else on campus. They almost feel like they are pros. You show up, get your football work done and then go home.”

And there’s still work to be done, Lewis, one of the team’s playoff newcomers, said.

“We’re going to look at what we did wrong, because we can still do things better,” Lewis said, “but I love everyone over here.”

When Thursday arrives, they’ll celebrate the holiday appropriately.

“At our Thursday practice we’ll bring all of the families down to the field,” Carter said. “Everyone takes a moment to talk about what they are thankful for, and at Lake Travis we have a lot to be thankful for.”
