About Rockwall
Series History
Rockwall and Lake Travis have played twice before, splitting the series. Lake Travis won 45-24 in a regional championship game in 2015. Rockwall won a regular-season meeting in 2021, 59-35.
A familiar name
Rockwall's offense is led by senior quarterback Landyn Locke, the younger brother of Braedyn Locke, who quarterbacked the Yellowjackets to their 2021 win over the Cavaliers. In that game, Braedyn Locke had the most prolific passing performance against Lake Travis in its history. He passed for 508 yards and 5 TDs in the win. Landyn Locke hasn't been as prolific as his older brother, but he's been effective. He passed for 1,702 yards and 19 touchdowns last year and passed for 114 yards and a score in last week's 38-27 win over Richardson Berkner.
Ready for Prime Time?
Like Lake Travis' Vann Hopping, who exploded for a huge game in the season opener after a solid debut season in 2023, Rockwall will also lean on senior running back Jamir Wilson. After rushing for 484 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2023, Wilson shouldered the load for the Yellowjackets against Berkner. He rushed for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns last week.
Tough Against the Pass
According to statistics entered on MaxPreps, Rockwall's defense proved stout against the pass. The defense registered 3 sacks and 11 pressures against Berkner while deflecting 10 passes, including 6 by Eric Gabriel. Rockwall held Berkner to 131 yards passing on 11 of 27 attempts.
Self-Inflicted Wounds?
The Dallas Morning News reported that Berkner and Rockwall combined to commit 35 accepted penalties that cost both teams a combined 263 yards. Rockwall was flagged 14 times. By contrast, Lake Travis was flagged just 3 times for 35 yards in its win over Arlington Martin.
