Lake Travis gets Measure of Revenge Against Dripping Springs

Lake Travis ended a 2-year losing streak against once-and-current rival Dripping Springs with a convincing 49-21 win Friday night.

Chaston Ditta passed for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns and added another 2 touchdowns rushing, and Vann Hopping continued his torrid pace with 138 yards and 2 more rushing touchdowns - upping his total to 18 for the season - to pace the offense. Josiah Thomas caught 5 passes for 110 yards and 2 scores as well.

Lake Travis, which suffered its worst defeat of the season on the Tiger Stadium turf in 2023, failing to score until the 4th quarter in an 24-6 loss in which Jack Tyndall rushed for more than 200 yards in the game, wasted little time making sure there wouldn't be a 2023 repeat. After forcing the Tigers to punt on their opening possession, the Cavaliers drove 57 yards in 11 plays, capped by Thomas' first touchdown of the night, to take the early lead.

Hopping scored a pair of touchdowns -- a 47-yard run late in the first quarter and a 2 yard run early in the second quarter -- as Lake Travis took control.

Defensively, the Cavaliers focused their attention on Tyndall and limited him to just 71 yards on 19 carries. Aside from a 23-yard run after the game's outcome had been decided, Tyndall's longest run of the game was just 6 yards and the Cavalier defense, led by Gus Cordova, Carter Buck and Easton Aird, trapped him in the backfield twice.

With the win, the Cavaliers move to 7-0 on the season, the first time they've been 7-0 since the 2015 season, when they started 15-0 before falling to Katy in the state championship game.

Oddly, Lake Travis beat Dripping Springs for the first time since 2011. The teams have now met 31 times in their history but didn't play between 2012 and 2022 after Lake Travis moved up in class. The rivalry resumed in 2022. Dripping Springs won that game 38-31 to end a 9-game losing streak in the series. The Tigers lead the overall series 17-14.
