Examining the 2025 Schedule
Game 1: Aug. 29 vs Arlington Martin
Last year: Lake Travis 51-12. Vann Hopping ran for 181 yards and 5 TDs on just 13 carries and the Cavaliers outscored the Warriors 34-2 in the second half.
Series Record: LT 4-2
Key Players: DE Jesse Ford (6-5, 255), RB Javien Jones-Priest (5-10, 185), OL Brandon Heath (6-4, 280).
About Martin: Martin looks to get back to its traditional winning ways after an uncharacteristic 3-7 season in which it missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Ford is a TCU commit who wreaks havoc from the edge. He totaled 20.5 tackles for loss, including 7.5 sacks, in 2024.
Game 2: Sept. 5 at Rockwall
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 45-42. Chaston Ditta’s late touchdown pass to Patrick Colby rallies the Cavaliers after they give up a 38-28 lead.
Series Record: LT 2-1
Key Players: WR/DB Jack Duckworth (6-1, 170), DB Will Ashworth (5-11, 180), TE/DE Jackson Stoner (6-4, 235).
About Rockwall: Duckworth is Rockwall’s top returning receiver but may be more valuable at cornerback, where he’s already committed to play at Stanford. Ashworth is always around the ball. He made 104 tackles and broke up 5 passes in 2024.
Game 3: Sept. 12 vs Midland Legacy
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 41-20. Gus Cordova and Cam’Ren-Chance Brooks scored defensive touchdowns to help Lake Travis overcome turnover troubles in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Series Record: LT 1-0
Key Players: QB J.P. Reyes (5-11, 175), WR/DB Nic Moore (5-11, 180), WR Ja’Braylen Anders (6-1, 170).
About Midland Legacy: Forced into action against Lake Travis in 2024, Reyes quickly found his footing. He broke Legacy’s school record for passing yards in a game in his first start and has a pair of promising receivers to test defenses.
Game 4: Sept. 19 at San Marcos
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 62-13. Patrick Colby caught 7 passes for 167 yards and 2 TDs and 7 different players scored touchdowns as the Cavaliers rolled past the overmatched Rattlers.
Series Record: LT 3-2
Key Players: QB Frans Steyn (6-5, 210), LB/RB I’Zayah Young (6-0, 215), OL Nick Henry (6-5, 290).
About San Marcos: While San Marcos’ varsity went 0-10, the JV went 10-0 thanks largely to a group of transfers ruled ineligible by the UIL for recruiting violations. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football included Young among the 10 best linebackers in the state. Henry made the magazine’s “Best of the Rest” among linemen.
Game 5: Sept. 25 (Thursday) Bowie (at Dripping Springs)
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 44-6. Chaston Ditta tossed a trio of touchdown passes to Lark Sidle, and Vann Hopping added 3 more on the ground as Lake Travis rolled past Bowie.
Series Record: LT 10-0
Key Players: LB Mason East (6-0, 230), DL Jackson Lang (6-3, 255), WR Rowen Wells (6-2, 185).
About Bowie: The Dawgs hope to be back in the playoff picture after missing out in 2024. East (92 tackles) and Lang (14 sacks) anchor a defense that will carry the load while the offense adjusts to some new players at key positions including quarterback. The “home” game will be played at Dripping Springs due to renovations on Cavalier Stadium.
Game 6: Oct. 10 at Del Valle
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 56-7. The Cavaliers scored early and often to pull away from Del Valle and cruised to an easy win. Ben Soules returned an interception for a score and Vann Hopping ran for a pair of scores in limited action.
Series Record: LT 15-2
Key Players: QB Alex Marcantoni (6-0, 215), DB David Vindou (6-1, 165), WR/DB Derick Leblanc (5-11, 175).
About Del Valle: First-year head coach Colin Williams takes over a program rich in skill players but still needing to build depth in the trenches. Vindou and Leblanc are key pieces in the secondary who can also make their mark on offense.
Game 7: Oct. 17 at Dripping Springs
Last year’s Result: Lake Travis 49-21. Chaston Ditta ran for a pair of touchdowns and connected with Josiah Thomas for 2 more scores as Lake Travis got its first win over Dripping Springs since 2011. After more than a decade of not playing each other, the Tigers beat the Cavaliers in 2022 and 2023 after realignment rekindled the rivalry.
Series Record: Dripping Springs 17-14
Key Players: WR Cooper Reid (6-5, 195), WR Merrik Bloomgren (6-4, 195), LB Dylan Brasher (6-2, 185).
About Dripping Springs: In Reid and Bloomgren, the Tigers might boast the biggest WR duo in the area. Reid, an Arizona State commit, has Lake Travis ties. His father Ben, an assistant coach with the Tigers, played his high school football at Lake Travis (1994-96) and remains the school’s all-time leading rusher.
Game 8: Oct. 24 at Westlake
Last year’s Result: Westlake 28-16 (reg season), Westlake 24-17 (playoffs). Turnovers doomed Lake Travis twice. In the regular season meeting, George Jones intercepted a pair of Lake Travis passes and Brandon Clark added a pick-6. In the playoffs, Westlake nabbed 4 more turnovers, including Jones’ game-clinching interception in the final minute as Lake Travis drove for a potential tying score.
Series Record: LT 11-10.
Key Players: QB Rees Wise (6-2, 210), DL Maddox Flynt (6-3, 270), DB Thompson Bennett (6-3, 195).
About Westlake: The Chaps have claimed the upper hand in the Battle of the Lakes rivalry with 6 straight wins. Flynt and Bennett are key pieces to a Westlake defense that’s forced 12 Lake Travis turnovers in the last 4 meetings, but Wise’s development is as big a reason the Chaps have controlled the series. After struggling with turnovers in 2023, he became much more adept at protecting the ball in 2024. Not coincidentally, Westlake reached the state championship game in 2024.
Game 9: Oct. 31 vs Akins (at Dripping Springs)
Last year’s Result: LT 51-0. Wesley Glass rushed for 174 yards and 4 TDs and the Lake Travis defense held Akins to just 72 total yards.
Series Record: LT 10-0
Key Players: DL Chris Herard (6-0, 232), RB Dylan Cagle (5-7, 200), QB Chris Gonzales (6-2, 185).
About Akins: Herard returns to anchor the most experienced part of Akins’ team, the defensive front. The Eagles need to figure some things out on offense: they haven’t scored against Lake Travis since 2021. The “home” game will be played at Dripping Springs due to renovations on Cavalier Stadium.
Game 10: Nov. 6 at Austin High (House Park)
Last year’s Result: LT 56-7. Chaston Ditta threw 3 touchdown passes and ran for 2 more scores to wrap up the regular season.
Series Record: LT 11-0
Key Players: QB Whit Davenport (6-1, 185), LB Ethan Khale (5-9, 190), WR Logan Davis (5-10, 165).
About Austin High: The Maroons registered the biggest win of the 2024 season when they upset Bowie to steal a Division 2 playoff bid. The win pushed Westlake into the Division 1 bracket and impacted the playoff fortunes of 6 other teams. Under new coach Jason Cecil, the Maroons hope to once again throw a wrench into the playoff picture.
