Finally enjoying some sunshine, the Lake Travis baseball team won three of four games at a rain-shortened Langerhans Invitational last weekend in Round Rock.

The Cavaliers topped McNeil 8-6 and fell to Kingwood Park 6-4 on Friday, then bounced back to sweep games with Fossil Ridge and Round Rock on Saturday.

Lake Travis 8, McNeil 6

On Friday, Chris Roller’s fourth inning grand slam powered the Cavaliers to an 8-6 win over pesky McNeil. Roller’s blast staked the Cavaliers to an 8-2 lead. McNeil chipped away against Jackson Parthasarathy and Ty Racca, but Colton Bailey recorded the last five outs to save the win.

After McNeil cut the Lake Travis lead to 3-2, the Cavaliers created some breathing room in the fourth. With one out, Dylan Bryant and Tanner Looney drew walks from Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli, and Bailey followed with a single to right, loading the bases. Pinch hitting for Eric Gonzales, Racca grounded a single to left. Roller followed by sending a bomb through the wind and over the left field fence for an 8-2 lead.

Parthasarathy struck out the side in the fourth and got the first two outs of the McNeil fifth before the Mavericks cut into the lead. Marshall Grant drew a walk and took third when Roller lost Matthew Wright’s fly ball in the sun for a double. Kayce Howell followed with a two-run single, cutting the Lake Travis lead to 8-4.

The Mavericks cut the lead to 8-6 by loading the bases against Racca in the sixth. Bailey allowed a two-run single to Grant before getting Wright to pop up, ending the inning. After walking Howell to lead off the seventh, Bailey retired the next three batters to earn the save.

Parthasarathy got the win despite allowing four runs on six hits (five doubles) in five innings. He struck out eight, including the side twice. Triolo and Brad Demco had two hits each for the Cavaliers. Roller and Bailey scored twice each.

Kingwood Park 6, Lake Travis 4

Trailing 2-0, Lake Travis rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the sixth but couldn’t hold it. Kingwood Park’s Curtis Rhodes delivered a two-out, bases-loaded double off Nolan Glubke in the bottom of the inning to win it.

Lake Travis had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the inning. Dillon Bryant delivered the big blow with a two-run single to tie the game and Bailey drew a bases-loaded walk to give Lake Travis the lead. But Kingwood Park turned Asher Cook’s hard grounder into an inning-ending double play, setting the stage for their own outburst.

Four Lake Travis errors hurt, playing a hand in all six of Kingwood Park’s runs. The sixth inning rally started when Triolo couldn’t come up with Steven Hodgson’s grounder.

Lake Travis 3, Fossil Ridge 2

On Saturday, the Cavaliers rebounded from the season’s first defeat with a three-run fifth to rally past Fossil Ridge. Jordan Markim singled and scored on Roller’s triple. Triolo’s fly ball scored Roller to tie the game. Demco doubled to left and scored on an error after Wyeth walked and Bryant singled.

Tate Sanford went the distance to earn the win for the Cavaliers, striking out five and allowing just two unearned runs on three hits. Triolo and Demco had two hits each for Lake Travis.

Lake Travis 7, Round Rock 0

The Cavaliers jumped on the Dragons early and cruised to a 7-0 win. A six-run second inning proved more than enough for A.J. Wolin, who teamed with Bailey on a 1-hit shutout.

Lake Travis’ second inning started harmlessly enough after Dragons’ pitcher Jake Brandvold retired the first two batters quickly. But Brandvold plunked Bailey with a pitch and Markim singled, setting the stage for the top of the order. Roller doubled down the line in left to score two and, after Triolo and Demco walked, Wyeth blasted a double to right-center, clearing the bases. Wyeth finished with two hits and 4 RBI in the win.

Wolin struck out 10 and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Round Rock’s Hudson Haag broke up the gem with a bunt single.
