Lake Travis trailed just once Thursday morning against Stony Point, but the Cavaliers clearly didn’t like looking up at the Tigers.

Having led 25-20 at the half only to see Stony Point’s Blake Bunker hit a pair of three-pointers during an 8-2 run early in the third quarter that pushed Stony Point to a 28-27 lead, the Cavaliers quickly turned up the defensive pressure to regain control. D’Marcus Lacy came off the bench to clamp down on Buckner and Lake Travis answered with a 10-2 run to regain control en route to a 56-45 win in pool play at Georgetown’s Jack Frost Tournament.

Lacy didn’t score in the game, but he held Buckner scoreless from midway through the third quarter until just 2:29 remained, when Lake Travis’ lead had grown to 49-37. Buckner finished with 13 points to lead the Tigers, but five came late.

Jake Budde and Blake Watkins led Lake Travis. Budde had 14 points while Watkins chipped in with 12, including seven in the fourth quarter. Alkaly Traore chipped in with 11 points for Stony Point.

Lake Travis opened up an early lead despite a cold shooting start and turnovers while trying to pound the ball inside to post players Sean Wimbush and Danny Rivara. They combined for 14 points and led a strong rebounding effort despite the turnovers inside. Yen Chen Wee added seven points, including a three-point play late in the first half to extend Lake Travis’ lead to 25-18.

The Cavaliers played without top scorer Tate Searle, who sat out with an injured right arm.
